The gold to silver ratio (GSR) measures how many ounces of silver it takes to buy one ounce of gold. This ratio is calculated by dividing the gold price by the silver price. Historically, the gold silver ratio has ranged from 15:1 to over 100:1, with the long-term average around 60-70:1. A high GSR suggests silver is relatively cheap compared to gold, while a low GSR indicates silver is expensive relative to gold. Using the Gold Silver Ratio for Trading

High GSR Strategy: When the gold/silver ratio is high (above 80-90), silver is historically cheap relative to gold. Some traders swap gold for silver, expecting the ratio to revert to its mean. This strategy assumes silver will outperform gold when the ratio compresses.

Low GSR Strategy: When the GSR is low (below 50-60), gold is relatively cheap compared to silver. Traders might swap silver holdings for gold, anticipating the ratio will expand back toward historical averages.

Mean Reversion Trading: The gold silver ratio tends to oscillate around its long-term mean. The GSR chart shows these cycles, which can last years or even decades.
