Understanding Blood Pressure

Blood pressure is measured in millimeters of mercury (mmHg) and recorded as two numbers: systolic pressure (top number) measures the pressure when your heart beats, while diastolic pressure (bottom number) measures pressure between beats. According to the American Heart Association, normal blood pressure is less than 120/80 mmHg. High blood pressure (hypertension) increases your risk of heart disease and stroke. Consult your healthcare provider for personalized advice.
